Hi and welcome! I’m glad you found your way to my blog. I’m Kelly Lahey and I am a Master’s Degree health behavior change professional in the fields of nutrition and exercise and am looking forward to sharing this life-enhancing journey with you.
I am originally from a small town in Maine and now reside in beautiful Marin County, CA with my two amazing children, Liam and Katrina. I am passionate about empowering people to live their best life and a have made a successful career doing just that.
I walk the walk and live the healthy lifestyle myself. I exercise every day, eat well (which for me includes chocolate!), and continue to develop in every area of my life. Personal growth is one of my core values and is something I work hard at every day. There’s effort involved in living a healthy lifestyle, but I don’t even think about it that way any more because the payback is so significant.
A health and fitness expert for over thirty years, I have been the team recipient of two Surgeon General Awards and a prestigious Disease Management Award in the fields of corporate health promotion and healthcare technology. Upon graduation from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, I was inducted into the Delta Omega Honor Society which recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of public health. I was also an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certified group exercise instructor for 20 years and one of the early leaders in the group exercise movement, most notably as a two-time state representative for the International Dance & Exercise Association (IDEA).

You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.
I am in my fifties and I am healthy and fitter than most people 20 years younger and I FEEL GREAT. There’s no better way to live. I don’t have better genetics than most, in fact I am fighting an uphill battle against heart disease which I will share in a future post. I have to work harder than most to stay healthy. Despite my health challenge and my age, I feel youthful and I attribute it to my healthy lifestyle. I want everyone to know how they can achieve this too. I look forward to sharing the evidence-based practices that I use with clients and patients in my decades long work as a public health educator and that I also practice myself.
I created this blog originally to log my nutrition journey as I tried various macronutrient combinations and eating styles to find what worked best for my body and through the process, educate others how others to do the same. The right nutrition plan for each of us does not have a name. Keto, Mediterranean, Paleo… these eating styles with names are most useful as a jumping off point to learn how your body responds to different foods in different proportions. It is understanding macros (proteins, complex carbs & fat) and how different types and quantities of these macros make your body feel and perform that is what is going to be effective and sustainable. In the brief time I began to prepare the blog, several discussions among women began to emerge on my social media about cultural norms of aging and how often we often limit our potential due to our unquestioning belief in limiting stereotypes. I saw another opportunity to empower women (and men- I’m inclusive!) to challenge and defy stereotypes related to age and individual potential, and redefine a new paradigm for future generations to follow. This website will cover a diverse range of topics that address body, mind, and spirit; all important aspects of a healthy lifestyle that are essential for living your best life. We’ll cover nutrition, fitness, mental health, spirituality, and relationships as well as share inspiring stories from our fabulous subscribers.
